Arabic Calligraphy, Ornamentation, and Gilding: Innovating with Tradition and Modernity

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has initiated its Arabic Calligraphy, Ornamentation, and Gilding Courses. The project aims to support and nurture emerging talents by introducing them to the beauty of Arabic calligraphy while providing educational and cultural opportunities. It runs from September 18th to December, embracing both tradition and modernity and reflecting Dubai Culture's commitment to promoting and safeguarding calligraphic art.
The roll-out, a part of the Dubai Calligraphy Biennale, targets individuals aged 13 and above, including students and in addition to enthusiasts, and amateurs in Arabic calligraphy. It offers specialised courses covering various calligraphy styles such as Thuluth, Naskh, Diwani Jali, Ruq'ah, and Ijazah. In addition, there are courses on Ornamentation and Gilding and Creative Writing, and also lectures and dialogue sessions conducted by experts in Arabic calligraphy.
The project, hosted at various locations, including Dubai Public Libraries, heritage sites, Thukher Social Club, Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, and Dubai Club for People of Determination, will conclude with an exhibition titled Arabic Calligraphy alongside ornamentation and gilding paintings. Additionally, there will be a screening of a documentary film exploring the history and philosophy of Arabic calligraphy.

Hello Summer
